On Our Shelf

Below are books which are currently, or have at some point being on our shelf. To make it on to these virtual shelves it has to be a book that I would thoroughly recommend.

I am an affiliate of bookshop.org. Below are the bookshelves I have there. To order simply click on the shelf's button and it will take you straight through to be able to browse that shelf and purchase.

Buying through the affiliated links provided means I will receive a small fee - however, the amount you pay is no different.

Child Reading in the Grass

Promoting Emotional Literacy.

This shelf is first as it's one of my passions. It covers a broad range of topics including self-esteem, emotional regulation, growth mindset, friendship, anxiety and more.

Out of this World.

Quite simply all things space! Such a fascinating subject that so many children are enthralled by.

The Ocean Blue.

Another topic which can provide a plethora of learning opportunities whilst being fascinating and captivating.

Trees.

Trees are so vital to our existence and the battle against climate change. They provide habitats for vast numbers of creatures. This shelf fits well with the 'understanding the world' strand of the EYFS.

The Animal Kingdom.

A vast subject area and over time I will have to sub divide this ! One of my favourite shelves.

Board Books

For our smallest readers a selection of our favourite board books to fuel a love of books from an early age.

Parent "Must reads."

This shelf is dedicated to all the books I have read over the years which I have found useful in one way or another. Whether that be parenting, wellness or a light hearted reminder we are not alone!

Challenging stereotypes

This shelf shares books that look at stereotypes and illustrate another way of thinking; consequently promoting equality and dismissing old fashioned / out dated ways of thinking, providing children with the confidence to truly be themselves.

Dinosaurs, Cavemen and Prehistoric Life.

All things roarsome! Dinosaurs and the prehistoric era are such a popular interest for many children how could we not have a shelf dedicated to this topic?

Spring and Easter Reads

Seasonal reads. Spring and Easter symbolise growth and new beginnings and generally speaking it is quite an uplifting topic to cover.

"I Get By With a Little Help From my Friends."

All the books on friendship and kindness. A topic close to my heart, fostering social and friendship skills, overcoming hurdles and generally being good humans!

Counting Tales

Books to help build confidence with number skills.

Cats, Cats and More Cats!

Pretty self explanatory - books about cats both big and small. Why? Because I love cats!

Brilliant Biographies

There are so many truly fascinating and inspirational people to learn about that this shelf just needed to be included. The standard of picture books that fit into this category is off the chart. Biographies helps broaden knowledge, empathy, open-mindedness and additionally have the potential to inspire a completely new area of interest.

A Twitcher's Paradise - All the birds

One of my son's favourite things is birds. So I had to dedicate a shelf to our feathered friends.

Starting School

The emotional rollercoaster that is starting school and how to provide coping strategies and tools for the big emotions that will inevitably come along for the ride.
